CA-23: The Ribbon of Shame

The Central Coast is one of America's most beautiful treasures. From the ocean swells and sandy beaches, to the plentiful orchards and wineries -- beauty abounds. "Paradise" is a word that comes easily to mind when describing the privilege of living here. This natural beauty, however, is marred by an ugly political reality. Many of the people of this region are in California's 23rd Congressional District. This District spans nearly 200 miles from the Monterey County line in the north to Oxnard/Port Hueneme in the south. The district hugs the coast the entire distance; in some spots, the district is absurdly narrow, less than 1000 feet in some places. This is the unfortunate result of extreme gerrymandering and it has earned the District a nationally known label: "The Ribbon of Shame." Congresswoman Capps is glad to control this gerrymandered district; it was, after all, drawn to ensure her continued victory in election after election. Tom Watson is the antithesis to this corrupt leadership. Take a closer look at the district map and marvel at the lengths our politicians will go to in order to protect themselves from competition. This process is totally corrupt and both parties are guilty of manipulating their boundaries to protect their seats. Now do something about it and join Tom Watson in the fight to restore the principles that made America great: individual liberty, limited government and vigorous free market entrepreneurial capitalism. Let Washington insiders like Congresswoman Capps know that we won't stand for corrupt leadership any longer. Remember, you can't change Congress without changing your Congressman.
